RESEARCH TEAM

Marc Ziegele

Marc is an Assistant Professor of Political Online Communication at the Department of Social Sciences and head of the Junior Research Group DEDIS at the Heinrich Heine University of Düsseldorf (HHU).

 

Marc is passionate about research on online discussions and user comments. He wrote his dissertation about the "Discussion Value of Online News" and has published various articles on user comments in international journals. He also talked about online discussion cultures at various conferences, such as re:publica 2019.

 

Together with his team from DEDIS, Marc conducts research on how to reduce incivility and promote deliberative discussions in online discussions

Dominique Heinbach

Since March 2018, Dominique is a Research Associate in the Junior Research Group DEDIS at the Department of Social Sciences at HHU Düsseldorf. She studied Communication Science at the University of Mainz, where she was investigating the persuasiveness of online news and user comments. Before joining DEDIS, she worked as a research assistant at the University of Mainz and as a television journalist for SWR.

 

Dominique's research mainly focuses on the effects and potentials of different moderation strategies in online discussions and how they can be used to effectively support a hate-free discussion culture.

Anke Stoll, M.A. 

Anke Stoll joined DEDIS in July 2018 as a Research Assistant at the Department of Social Sciences at HHU Düsseldorf. She studied Communication and Media Science in Münster, Leipzig and Zurich with a focus on applied statistics and data science. For her master thesis "Text Classification using Machine Learning" she received the Paul Lazarsfeld-Scholarship (2018).

At DEDIS, Anke mainly works on the automated analysis of online discussions and the implementation of moderation systems for the Social Web.
